Stress in Everyday Life: When Does It Become Unhealthy?

Good sleep is essential for both physical and mental health. It helps the body recover and restore energy for the next day.

Why Is Healthy Sleep So Important?

During sleep, important recovery and regeneration processes take place in the body. The brain processes information, while the body recovers from the demands of the day.

Getting enough regular sleep can help you feel fitter and more productive during the day.

How Much Sleep Does an Adult Need?

Individual sleep needs can vary. For most adults, around seven to nine hours of sleep per night is a good guideline. What matters is not only the duration of sleep, but also its quality and regularity.

What Can Support Healthy Sleep?

A regular sleep schedule can help the body prepare for rest and recovery. Try to go to bed and get up at approximately the same times each day.

A quiet and comfortable sleeping environment can also support recovery. The bedroom should ideally be dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature.

Also, try to avoid heavy meals, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks shortly before going to bed.

Digital devices and bright light can make it harder for some people to fall asleep. A relaxing evening routine without a smartphone or computer can therefore be helpful.

What Should You Do If You Have Sleep Problems?

Sleep problems are not uncommon. However, if difficulties falling asleep or staying asleep persist for a longer period of time, or significantly affect your performance and quality of life, the underlying cause should be medically evaluated.

Heavy snoring, pauses in breathing during sleep, or pronounced daytime sleepiness should also be discussed with a doctor.

Our Tip

Maintain regular sleeping hours and give your body enough time to recover. Small changes to your evening routine can already help improve sleep quality.

If sleep problems persist, talk to your doctor.
